| Welcome to the new and improved home of the GummiBears. We are an Unreal Tournament clan where really only three things matter - building friendships, having fun playing UT, and fragging the hell out of everyone else. In the colorful eyes of the GummiBears, that is what being a UT clan is all about. We are not obsessive about entering ladder tournaments or about any kind of organized competition. We are, however, obsessive about having a great time. Those of you that have played with/against us know that for a fact. Sure, occasionally tempers flare (as does everyone's) but we can almost always be found cracking jokes and laughing it up as we dominate many of the best public servers. So feel free to drop by our messageboard, irc channel, or some of our favorite servers and you'll be guaranteed to have a great time with some really cool guys. |
| The idea for starting the GummiBears originated around March of 2000. There was once three friends that were all in college and studied together frequently. They often got GummiBears to munch on while they were studying, and being the immature college students that they were, eventually started playing with them. Their fun started out by dividing the colors up and setting up little armies and waging war between the GummiGangs. After a while, of course they had to resort back to the more primitive fun of whizzing them at each other. Anyway, they were all also starting to get into UT at this time. While they were playing one night they noticed an abundance of people on the servers wearing tags to symbolize that they all belonged to a team. They thought that it would kind of be funny to start a clan themselves. Since they were pretty much newbies and had not had much internet playing experience they decided to come up with a very non-intimidating name, just as a joke
- to kind of make fun of all the other clans out there with big tough intimidating names. To support this little theme of theirs further they also decided to make their names very impersonal - colors! The result was the three original colors of the GummiBear Clan - Yellow, Red, and White (retired).
It wasn't long before jokes started being made about the GummiBears. Everything imaginable was used from DummiBear to Shit-Colored[GummiBear] and on and on. Pretty much everyone laughed at us and called us names... at least until we started getting good. It didn't take too long for Yellow, Red, and White to find ways to fight back against these verbal attackers. And fight back they did - with their rocket launchers, shock rifles, and sniper rifles. Soon other players started recognizing us, not as a clan with a 'weak' name but as a clan that actually was developing some skill and earning respect. Most of all though, we were recognized as a clan that had fun no matter how bad they were getting whooped up on. We took our initial beatings humbly and learned skills from our opponents, but most importantly we learned how to have fun.
Having fun while improving our skills is what was most important to us as a clan, and this is what started attracting others. Other players would see how much fun we had and how we were continuously improving until we started nearing the ranks of the top players on the server. Many people would write to us during games and ask us if we were taking applicants to join the GummiBear Clan. At first, Yellow, Red, and White were kind of surprised that people wanted to join the clan that originated as a joke. We didn't have a webpage, email address, or even know what an IRC channel was. We didn't know anything about what clans do, let alone how to run one.
To make a long story short, after numerous members in and out of the clan, after an alliance and near merger with another clan, and after many of our key members going into hibernation after graduating from college and entering the summer season, this is where we stand. We stand together as a group of great friends always willing to stick their necks out for anyone else. Always willing to have the best time they possibly can, whether it be in a game of UT or in the message boards or irc chat. Always more than willing to bust on each other about everything under the sun, from having sex with sheep, to bangin' each others girlfriends/sisters (for our Midwesterners girlfriend/sister is one in the same), but always knowing that it's all in fun and we're all just having a great time. As an original founder of the GummiBear Clan I have been here through it all and I can guarantee you that no other clan has as much fun as we have or has the kind of friendships that we have developed
as GummiBears. Much like the gelatinous candy, the GummiBears may be bounced around, stretched, smashed, and torn, but eventually they will always stick together and once again reform back into the original shape. The GummiBear Clan will live on forever. Go go GummiPower!
